Hotel Reviews

“My third stay at the beautiful Hotel Otai and definitely not my last. It is not the place if you are spoiled and used to luxury 5-star hotel accomodations, but if you want the friendliest and warmest greeting, then this is where you want to stay. And if you want to experience what the island culture is really like, then this is the place for you. They truly make you feel like family. The rooms are clean, the food is pure RapaNui, and excellent, considering they have limited resources for growing their own and most has to be imported (and if you don't think that is a challenge for this beautiful and culture-filled, most remote inhabited island in the world, whose only real industry is tourism, think again). If it sounds like I am a bit prejudiced for this hotel, well, yes I am, because I have been treated like royalty each time I have been there, beginning with the first trip in 2000 when I stayed as a student for 8 weeks, then again in 2001 for over 8 weeks, and in 2006, when I took my son for his 30th birthday. Nothing but pure class from this family and the staff. I am returning in February 2009 with my 18 year old granddaughter and you can guarantee I will be staying with the Haoa family again at the beautiful and classy Hotal O'tai.”

“We just returned from a trip to Easter Island and French Polynesia. We started at Easter Island an the Hotel O'Tai - it was great! The staff were friendly and always very well informed and helpful. The rooms were simple but more than adequate and the setting was breathtaking. It is located close to everything so walking is a pleasure and you can access everything you need very easily. Overall great experience!”

“Like other travelers, we chose the Hotel O'Tai based on the Edward Albee piece in the New York Times. We were very pleased with the hotel and would strongly recommend it. Our room was large, comfortable, and clean. There was no TV or radio or Internet connection, but that was fine with us -- we went to Easter Island to get away from all of that. The sound of ocean lulled us to sleep and we awoke to crowing of roosters. The gardens, dotted with carved stonework, were beautiful and very well -maintained. The swimming pool, while of modest size, was crystal clear and set amid a lush tropical setting. The staff were very pleasant and very helpful. When a guide that we arranged failed to arrive, the hotel arranged a very special special tour for us. Nico and everyone else with whom we dealt were wonderful and we were made to feel very welcome. The dining area where we had breakfast was very cheerful. Breakfast was cereal, fresh fruit, biscuits, ham, cheese, preserves, coffee cake, juice, and tea or Nescafe. While walking around Hanga Roa, we did see the other hotels, which did look very nice, but we were very pleased we chose the Hotel O'Tai and look forward to a return trip.”
